Young Writers will be encouraged to generate a portfolio of material with a view towards publication, competition entries, and performance.
There will also be opportunity to work towards Arts Awards, to contribute work for web and print and to experience life behind the stage curtain at one of the UK’s leading theatres. Complimentary tickets may also be available for certain productions.
‘The aim of the Young Writers is for young people to learn what it takes to make it as a writer and develop confidence, skills and a writing portfolio that can help with college and university applications as well gaining placements and employment within the Creative Writing sector’ said Matt West, Lit Up! Project Manager.
Councillor Mohan Lyengar said ’This is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of our young writers and their writing in the Borough of Poole. I wish the participants every success in the future.’
The first session takes place at Lighthouse Poole on Tuesday 26th Jan. Participants are to meet Young Writers lead facilitator, James Cole, at Lighthouse Poole’s ground floor cafe for a 6.30pm start. The session will end at 8.30pm. There is no cost for participation as this project is supported using public funds from Arts Council England and Borough of Poole’s Arts team.
