Scripting Masterclasses with Nick Field - A series of 3 masterclasses aimed at both beginners and advanced writers who wish to develop a set of poetry or prose for live performance. Workshops will take place on consecutive Saturdays and will be open and accessible to beginners as well as more advanced writers. Nick is a leading theatre-maker based in London and this is a unique practical opportunity to devise, develop and deliver scripts with support from an industry professional. Booking is essential. Shot at Dawn - Writing the Past workshop with BAFTA award-winning writer John Foster
This workshop will explore practical and creative issues involved in turning historical record into compelling fiction and drama. The focus will be upon narratives which embrace factual material yet imbue it with personal authorial interpretation. Various narrative forms from theatre, film and fiction employed to dramatise the true story will be explored – dramatised-documentary, faction, the reconstruction, agitprop theatre, verbatim theatre, oral history, factually based drama, creative nonfiction. Participants will consider styles and ethos of different structures together with individual ways of representing the past. Part of the workshop will focus upon the research and writing of the WW1 drama, Shot at Dawn, and how archival material was utilised in the development of the play.
